Construction SEO agency: turn Google into your source of job sites

On 1 September 2026, five families of work left the French per-measure renovation grant scheme. If your insulation, ventilation or wood-heating pages leaned on that grant to convert, they lost their argument twelve days ago. Our construction SEO services rebuild visibility trade by trade and city by city, on the searches that end in a quote request, with the construction marketing calendar built around the season rather than the quarter. Qualified leads, not traffic without a project behind it.

Contractors, builders, general contractors and multi-branch firms. RGE and Qualibat certifications put to work, decennial insurance stated correctly, and the seasonality of the trade built into the editorial calendar.

What the August 2026 decree changes for your renovation pages

Decree no. 2026-822, the French décret published on 25 August 2026, took effect on 1 September. It removes five families of work from the per-measure route of MaPrimeRénov', the French energy retrofit grant. For a construction company website that is not a news item: it is a rewrite of the argument on the pages that converted best, and therefore a revision of the SEO strategy carrying them. If you operate outside France, the rules differ but the mechanic does not. A grant scheme changes, and every page built on it stops converting the same week.

📉

Insulation, ventilation, wood heating: the grants withdrawn

Out of the per-measure route: wall, window, roof-terrace and attic-ceiling insulation; ventilation, including double-flow systems; wood and biomass heating and hot water; dedicated thermodynamic water heaters; solar thermal. An « attic insulation + grants » page written in June now promises something that no longer exists, and it is still indexed.

🔥

What stays funded, and what that is worth in traffic

The air-to-water heat pump keeps its €5,000 grant, geothermal and solar-assisted systems €11,000 for the lowest-income households. District heating connection, oil tank removal, the energy audit and whole-home retrofit remain funded. These are now the strongest commercial pages in the sector, and the search intent behind them has not moved.

🏚️

F and G rated homes: the window to the end of 2027

Homes rated F or G on the French energy performance certificate keep access to the per-measure route until 31 December 2027. That is a dedicated page, an addressable audience and roughly fifteen months of runway. Most competitors have not written it yet.

RGE, Qualibat and decennial insurance: your certifications are an SEO asset

Most construction company websites treat certifications as logos in the footer. Search engines cannot read a logo. Stated as structured data, the same certifications become verifiable facts that feed both rankings and conversion.

🎖️

Without RGE, your customer gets nothing

RGE certification is what gives the customer access to MaPrimeRénov', energy saving certificates and the zero-interest eco-loan. The law of 30 June 2025 added an audit every two years, a two-tier cap on subcontracting, and an obligation for the main contractor to hold RGE from 1 January 2027. A contractor who holds it and does not say so on the page is losing quote requests to one who does.

🛡️

Decennial insurance, mandatory on quotes and invoices

Since the law of 18 June 2014, the insurer, the contract number and the geographic coverage of decennial liability insurance must appear on quotes and invoices. Operating uninsured carries €75,000 and six months. The same three facts on the website answer the first question a homeowner asks, and they are exactly the kind of detail that builds trust before the call.

🏷️

GeneralContractor and hasCredential markup

Schema.org can describe all of this. The GeneralContractor type, which inherits from LocalBusiness, whether you trade as a general contractor or a single specialist trade; hasCredential for Qualibat and RGE qualifications with their issuing body and validity date; areaServed for the real service area; and structured data for customer reviews. A coherent graph gives Google verifiable facts instead of logos it cannot read.

The searches that start a job, trade by trade

« Mason Toulouse » brings enquiries. « Underpinning crack repair house Toulouse » brings a five-figure quote. Both are worth working, but the second family decides the year. This is where SEO for contractors differs from generic local marketing. Keyword research for a construction company is an inventory of the defects you actually fix, not a list of job titles.

🧱

Mason, roofer, carpenter

Structural cracks, underpinning, opening a load-bearing wall, roof renewal, storm damage, timber frame treatment. High purchase intent, high average value, and long tail searches with far less local competition than the trade name alone. One dedicated page per defect beats one page per trade.

🔧

Plumber, electrician, HVAC engineer

Half the traffic is an emergency, the other half a planned renovation. Two search intents, two pages, two different conversion treatments. Panel upgrades, EV charge points and bathroom renovation each carry their own search results and their own seasonality.

🌡️

Energy retrofit, insulation, heat pump

The family most affected by the decree. The angle moves from grant amount to energy bill, summer comfort, resale value and performance certificate. The heat pump remains funded, which makes it the most solid commercial page in the sector right now.

10 construction trades and their local SEO potential
  1. Mason: high volume, dense local competition in cities. The differentiator is not « mason + city » but the defect treated: cracking, underpinning, opening a load-bearing wall. One page per defect captures a far more valuable quote request.
  2. Roofer: sharp seasonality and genuine urgency after a storm. The roof page has to exist before the weather, not after. The local pack and the Google Business Profile decide who gets the call within the hour.
  3. Carpenter: lower volume, high average value, little competition on precise searches such as traditional timber framing or frame treatment. Favourable ground for a small builder. Builder SEO on these searches is less about volume than about being the only page that describes the work.
  4. Plumber: half the traffic is emergency, half is bathroom renovation. Two distinct search intents, two distinct pages, two distinct conversion paths.
  5. Electrician: compliance upgrades, consumer units, EV charge points. The charge point remains a growing search with modest local competition in many service areas.
  6. HVAC engineer: the air-to-water heat pump stays funded after the August 2026 decree, which makes it the sector's most reliable grant page today. Servicing and breakdown work fills the order book out of season.
  7. Joiner and drylining: windows, doors, fitted joinery, partitions. Highly local searches, little authority required, ideal for starting an internal linking structure between trade pages and city pages.
  8. Tiler and painter: tradesman SEO at its most local, with lower average value but a short decision cycle. Project photos and customer reviews weigh more on conversion than the copy does.
  9. Groundworks and civil engineering: a mixed audience of homeowners, project managers and local authorities. A public procurement and tender section, with qualifications and reference projects up front, speaks to a different reader entirely.
  10. Energy retrofit and insulation: the family hit hardest by the per-measure withdrawal. The angle shifts from grant amount to energy bill, summer comfort and property value, with F and G rated homes as the last funded window to the end of 2027.

Getting past the directories on your local searches

Type any trade plus any city and the first screen belongs to directories. They have domain authority, thousands of pages and nothing to say about your work. You can still pass them, because on a precise search they have less to offer than you do.

📒

Why directories rank above your site

They carry more backlinks, more pages and more history. What they cannot produce is a page that explains one defect, one technique and one price range in a specific city. That is where a construction company site wins: depth on a narrow search instead of breadth on a generic one.

📍

Google Business Profile and the local pack

The map pack shows three businesses, and for a contractor those three places are worth more than the first organic position. Primary category, consistent name, address and phone across the web, service area, opening hours, photos and a steady flow of Google reviews decide who appears.

⭐

Customer reviews, project photos, references

Google Ads is closed to nobody here, but it stops the day the budget stops; reviews carry weight in the local pack and settle the decision on the page for as long as they stand. Dated, located project photos with a short description of the work do the same job for organic search, and they give AI answer engines something concrete to cite. Word of mouth still brings the best jobs; the website is where it gets checked.

🔗

Local citations and link building

Local press, trade federations such as CAPEB and FFB, suppliers and manufacturers whose products you install, serious sector directories. Consistent citations with identical details everywhere build authority and local brand awareness. An old company name left on one directory dilutes it.

Our SEO method, driven by contextual density

We measure before we write. Our Contextual Density methodology compares a page against the semantic field the companies ahead of you actually cover, and returns a number instead of a writer's impression: density, semantic diversity, coverage.

1️⃣

Technical audit and trade mapping

Indexing, crawl, page speed, mobile, user experience, meta tags and site structure, then an inventory of the trades you actually sell and the service area you actually cover. Both reviews happen together: there is no point optimising a page for work you do not take.

2️⃣

One page per trade, one page per city

The crossing of trade and geography produces most of the organic traffic of a construction company. It gets built with restraint: one page per city genuinely served, with its own content, never a duplicated page where only the name changes. A trade page answers a precise search intent and brings in project inquiries from people who already know what they need, with optimized content written against a measured list of keywords rather than a guess. Internal linking connects defect pages to service pages, and all of them to the contact point.

🔗

Local link building and citations

Local press, professional federations, suppliers, serious sector directories. Coherent backlinks and citations, with the credibility that comes from being cited where your buyers already look, with the same details everywhere, strengthen domain authority, local brand awareness and your visibility in search results.

📊

Monthly tracking in quote requests

Positions by trade and by city, impressions and clicks in Google Search Console, calls from the Google Business Profile, quote requests received. Construction SEO is steered on the enquiries that come in and the conversion rate, not on raw traffic: that is where the return on investment is readable. A commitment of means, with monthly reporting that says what moved and why.

Qualifications, projects and dates: the authority of a construction company

A homeowner describing a crack to ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini gets an answer with a handful of sources. What decides whether you are among them is the material that already decides your ranking: facts that check out, dated, and consistent from one surface to the next.

🤖

Make your facts checkable rather than declarative

An address, a service area and qualifications that agree across the site, the Google Business Profile and your quotes, with explicit named entities rather than marketing phrasing. Models and classic search engines both extract a sales brochure badly and a page explaining a defect, a technique or a cost very well. The generative side is covered on our AI SEO, GEO and AEO page, and AI Overviews follow the same logic, with a measurable effect on click-through rate. None of it is separate from search engine optimization; it is the same material, checked harder.

🎓

E-E-A-T in construction: qualifications, projects, dates

An SEO expert does not manufacture that authority, only makes it legible. A page signed by an identifiable professional, with the qualifications actually held, their certifying body and validity, dated and located projects with the job site documented, and a visible update, carries more weight than anonymous copy. Short case studies do the same work for a buyer comparing three firms. We also measure your generative share of voice across your trades and your area.

How much does a construction SEO agency cost?

Pricing follows the number of trades and the size of the service area, not a rate card. Here are the three formats we work with and what they contain.

Contractor SEO audit

The entry format of a contractor SEO engagement, as a one-off: technical audit, Google Business Profile, review profile, current positions by trade and by city, a review of your grant pages after the August decree, and the contextual density gap against the three competitors ahead of you. Delivered with a prioritised action plan and an indicative budget, usable with the SEO agency of your choice.

Monthly engagement

Local SEO, Google Maps and the Google Business Profile, four to six trade pages written to a measured contextual density, the city pages of your real service area, local link building, a technical SEO review and monthly reporting on positions. The most common format for a company of five to twenty tradespeople.

Multi-branch and public procurement

Several locations treated separately, one page per branch with its own Google Business Profile, a tender and public procurement section with qualifications and reference projects brought forward for buyers, consolidated reporting and generative share of voice tracking.

What moves the pricing: the number of trades to cover, the number of cities genuinely served, the local competition in your area, the technical state of the existing site, the volume of usable project photos, and the number of Google Business Profiles to run. The budget follows the real potential of the area. An SEO consultant will tell you everything can be worked on; an SEO expert will tell you what to start with so the rest pays for itself.

FAQ: SEO for construction companies

My insulation pages stopped converting in September, what now?

They have most likely lost their financing argument. Decree no. 2026-822 of 25 August 2026 removed wall, window, roof-terrace and attic-ceiling insulation from the per-measure route on 1 September. The rewrite is about the angle: energy bill, summer comfort, property value and performance certificate rather than grant amount. Two solid avenues remain: homes rated F and G, eligible for the per-measure route until 31 December 2027, and whole-home retrofit, which is still funded.

How long does construction SEO take to show results?

The local pack can move in 30 to 60 days with an optimised Google Business Profile and a steady flow of reviews. Organic positions on « trade + city » take more like three to six months. That is exactly why a construction editorial calendar is set ahead of the season: a page published in February ranks when demand for outdoor work starts.

How do I get past the directories on my trade search?

Contractor SEO is rarely won on volume. By answering more precisely than a directory listing can. A directory shows a name, a phone number and a category. A page that explains the defect, the technique, the typical duration and the price range, with dated project photos in that city, answers the question the searcher actually has. That is also what an answer engine cites.

Do I need a page for every city I work in?

For every city you genuinely serve and can reach, yes. For a list of towns copied from a map, no: near-duplicate city pages compete with each other and dilute the site. The workable rule is one city page where you have work to show, references to cite and a reason to be chosen there.

Does RGE certification actually help rankings?

Not directly, and no certification is a ranking factor on its own. What it changes is eligibility: without RGE your customer gets no grant, so the page cannot convert on that argument at all. Stated as structured data with hasCredential, the qualification also becomes a verifiable fact that supports the E-E-A-T assessment of the page.

Should I show my decennial insurance on the site?

Yes. It has been mandatory on quotes and invoices since the law of 18 June 2014, and putting the insurer, contract number and geographic coverage on the site answers the first question a cautious homeowner asks. It costs nothing, it removes an objection, and it is one of the few trust signals in this sector that can actually be verified.

Does SEO work for public procurement and B2B?

It works differently. An architect, a buyer or a project manager does not search like a homeowner: they look for qualifications, reference projects, capacity and sector data. That is a separate section with its own vocabulary and its own pages, aimed at architects, project managers and local authority buyers rather than at the general public.
